The Bhutanese Community of Michigan (BCM) is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to empowering Nepali-speaking Bhutanese refugees resettled in the Greater Grand Rapids area. While our foundational efforts began in 2008 with the arrival of the pioneering batch of refugees to Michigan, BCM was formally incorporated in 2014 at both the state and federal levels.
Our core mission is to guide fellow refugees as they transition from the hardships of overseas camps into the vibrant, sophisticated fabric of American society. We actively work to alleviate culture shock, helping families navigate the complexities of social integration, workforce development, and the proud journey toward American citizenship.
We embrace the vision of America as a magnificent “salad bowl” where every distinct culture enriches the collective national identity. As we adapt to new educational, social, and economic opportunities, we remain deeply committed to preserving our unique heritage.
To continue lifting up this resilient community as they build their American dream, BCM is actively seeking grants and strategic partnerships with local, state, and federal agencies. We are also profoundly grateful for any form of public support—whether moral, legal, or financial.
Our operations are driven by a passionate leadership structure, including 7 Board Members and a 7-member Advisory Board, all backed by a robust network of volunteers across Greater Grand Rapids. We proudly operate in close coordination with trusted partners, including Bethany Christian Services, the City of Kentwood, the West Michigan Asian American Association, and local faith-based communities. We invite new partners to join us in our enduring mission to strengthen our community, our state, and our nation.
